The class A licence is the unrestricted motorcycle licence for all engine sizes and power levels. At Mikis Fahrschule we guide you safely through your motorcycle training, whether as a direct entry, as an extension of your car licence or step by step via A1 and A2.

What class A training includes

Practical training starts on the training ground (riding slowly, slalom, evasive manoeuvres) continues in city traffic and ends with the special rides on country roads, on the motorway and at night.

Theory & motorcycle technology

Complete theory training for first-time learners. If you already hold a class B licence, you need 6 double lessons of basic material and 4 double lessons of class A specific material.

Mandatory practical drives

Training ground, city traffic, country roads, motorway and night riding. These drives are required by law and are part of every class A training.

With class A you may ride any motorcycle without restrictions on engine size or power, from a 125 cc bike all the way to superbikes. The class also covers motorcycles with sidecars.

Who can get a class A licence?

01

Direct access from the age of 24

If you are at least 24 years old, you can start directly with class A, without holding any previous motorcycle class.

  • Possible from the age of 20 after 2 years of class A2.

02

Step-by-step licence A1 → A2 → A

From 16 with A1 (125 cc), from 18 with A2 (mid-range) and from 20, after 2 years of A2, on to the full class A.

  • Build up more power and experience step by step.

03

Moving over from a car licence

Already have class B? Then you need 6 double lessons of basic material and 4 double lessons of class A specific material. The theory test is shorter than for a first licence.

  • A quick and efficient route to your motorcycle licence.

Frequently asked questions about class A

Direct entry is possible from the age of 24. With two years of class A2, it is possible from as early as 20. With the step-by-step licence you start with A1 from 16 and A2 from 18, and after two years of A2 you can move up to class A.

No, class B is not a requirement for class A. However, if you already hold class B, you will benefit from it: instead of the full theory course you need 6 double lessons of basic material and 4 double lessons of class A specific material, and the theory test is shorter. You save both time and money.

The duration depends on your previous experience and how often you take lessons. As a rough guide: if you already have a car licence and take lessons regularly, it is often 6 to 10 weeks until the test. As a complete beginner, you should expect 3 to 4 months.

Just like the car licence, class A also requires 12 special rides of 45 minutes each: 5 country road rides, 4 motorway rides and 3 night rides. On top of that come practice sessions on the training ground.
