Accompanied driving from 17 (BF17) is a special form of driver training: if your 17th birthday is coming up soon, you can already start your training and get your licence at 17. Until your 18th birthday you then drive with a registered accompanying person.
The advantage: you gain a whole year of driving practice with someone you trust. This has been shown to lower the risk of accidents.
What BF17 includes
Theory & practice like class B
Complete driver training according to the German Road Traffic Act (StVG). Theory test and practical test with TÜV, just like class B.
Accompanied driving until 18
After passing your test, you drive anywhere in Germany with a registered accompanying person.
Requirements for BF17
01
Registration from 16 and a half
Driver training can start at the age of 16 years and 6 months, so that you can take the test right on your 17th birthday.
- We recommend registering early.
02
Requirements for the accompanying person
The accompanying person must be at least 30 years old, must have held class B for at least 5 years and may have no more than 1 point in the driver fitness register (Flensburg).
- Several accompanying persons are possible (all of them must be registered).
03
After your 18th birthday
As soon as you turn 18, you may drive without an accompanying person. Your licence is then valid without any restrictions. The probationary period (2 years) simply continues as normal.
- No need to take another test.
